Skyfall

»Review«

“SKYfall”—The first thing that comes to mind is probably the James Bond movie from 2012, but this is a different fiction. What happens when the sky falls down? The resulting gap is filled by the view of the universe and the question arises: Will humans be able to experience, i.e survive this? Another thing that comes to mind is an idea of the end of the world that has been proven to have prevailed among the Celts (including the Greek historian Arrianus, 95 BC to 175 AD, and early medieval Irish literature). The Celts feared nothing except that the sky would fall on them. Most people know this fear from the comic strip “Asterix and Obelix” by Majestix, the leader of the stubborn Gauls, who feared nothing except the sky falling on his head.

The photograph is of the sky over Callantsoog, North Holland, and the work is therefore part of the ‘Playing around with Callantsoog skies’ series. The SKY series explores the theme of “SKY” on three levels: visual, written, and sound.
