“MCE Arslohgo Meets Escher” uses the abstracted polder landscape—the background of “MCE Day And Night 2025″—and modifies it further. This background is rendered as an abstract painting in the style of structured acrylic painting. The painting is composed of two three-part bands placed one below the other, which together contain a total of 40 vertical and horizontal segments, with the lower band mirroring the upper one.
For “MCE Arslohgo Meets Escher,” the number of bands was doubled both horizontally and vertically, and the mirroring was adjusted to create new, recurring band motifs. From the central pattern of the lower band, the creator of this work looks out from the background up toward the great M. C. Escher. Both are firmly integrated into the work, and Arslohgo meets Escher both in this image and through the recombination of Escher’s works. To prevent the overall appearance of the black-and-white image from seeming too somber, it had to be lightened slightly at the end. “MCE Arslohgo Meets Escher” also exists in a color variant.
“MCE Arslohgo Meets Escher” is part of the project “Approaches To MCE.”
