“Deep Sea Crets—Scratching the Surface” is another work in the ‘Playing Around With Water’ series. Humanity reaches for height (and for distance), while what it lacks is depth — in more ways than one.

The work depicts a diver at the edge of an infinity pool situated above the clouds, overlooking a mountain range. The pool’s water extends deep into the depths, into a zone the diver could scarcely reach by diving. Ultimately, his dives will only scratch the (water’s) surface.

The work is assembled from freely available photographs found on the World Wide Web — an infinity pool panorama and a photographic detail of the Mariana Trench. The diver was generated with the assistance of AI and subsequently composited into the image.
