MCE Red Ants Möbius Variation
»Review«
The starting point for this work is a 1963 Escher woodcut, “Möbius Strip II,” also known as “Red Ants.” In Escher’s grid-like Möbius strip, nine red ants follow one another, walking along both the front and back sides, demonstrating that the strip has only one surface. In this variation, there’s a suggestion of a metallic Möbius strip, whose form was created using generative AI. The form hovers, embedded in a cloudy background, like an infinity symbol placed upright, suspended in space. Unlike Escher’s version, only two ants move along the strip—of which only one is clearly visible. The ants serve solely as a reference to Escher’s work.
“MCE Red Ants Möbius Variation” is part of the project “Approaches To MCE.”
