When the nocturnal background for ‘SEAshell’ was finished, I had scenes from ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ (Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks) in mind. So the work became the prequel to ‘Seattle’. Even though “SEAttle” is more than 100 miles away from the Pacific Ocean, I associate the city with the sea. Perhaps it is due to the interconnected waterways of Puget Sound that separate Seattle from the open ocean.

The background is a combination of a true and a slightly modified, freely available photograph, and the work is part of the ‘Playing around with Callantsoog skies and waters’ series. The combined SKY and SEA series explores the theme of “SKY” and “SEA” on three levels: visual, written, and sound.
