MCE Cubic Space Filling 52-25: Transformation Processes

»Review«

I have been an admirer of Escher since I first held a reproduction of his work in my hands nearly fifty years ago. If I remember correctly, it was “Cubic Space Filling,” but it may also have been his “Spirals”—I am no longer entirely sure. Now that I am taking a closer look at his works again, primarily with the intention of digitally transforming one or two of them, I have made Escher’s “Cubic Space Filling” from 1952 the starting point for “Cubic Space Filling 2025.”

The work depicts the transformation from cubic shapes to spherical shapes. This process is not yet complete, not all cubes and rectangular connections have been transformed into spheres and round rods yet. The geometric construction was developed with the aid of generative AI and then further processed in terms of color and lighting technology.
